Custom Reptile Electrical-Thermostat how to question...
I have a pet snake and currently use a lamp dimmer to manually control my under the tank heater (heat pad) to about 88 degrees. Without it it reaches about 115-120 degrees.
I would like to somehow automate this using a digital thermostat and make it myself without really spending a whole lot for a actual thermostat designed by commercial sources in the reptile industry.
The old way was to use a light dimmer and cut the cord and insert between power and heating pad and we're good to go but now can do it via a lamp dimmer extention cord ($10 bucks at home depot).
I want to take it a step further and see if I can somehow rig/modify a $15 digital thermostat from homedepot. My understanding of room thermostats controlers sense the room temp and shuts off. In my case I want to bypass or extend that by putting the sensor directly on the heat source.
That way I can set the digital temp and it'll sense the heat at the probe end and then shut down.
Can it be done cheaply close to $15 as possible? How can it be done?
Thank you in advance.
Why not try something from a place like this:
Likely safer and will work.
