Cover modification for older Murray service panel
I have a 100 amp / 20 space Murray service panel that's about 25 years old. The cover has two holes at its bottom, for screws to hold it to the box. The box itself has 4 places where the metal was bent to form females for the kind of non-machine thread screws Murray used.

My question is this: did the cover forming machine FORGET to put 2 holes at the top of the cover? The cover can be hooked on at the top (sort of), but it doesn't hold very well - so, when you take the screws out at the bottom, the cover can easily fall off, into your lap, onto the floor.

I'm thinking about drilling the two 'missing' holes in the cover. Can anyone think of a reason NOT to???

Thanks in advance for any knowledge you can bring to bear on this.

Some boxes may have a slot close to the top that the cover slides into and the screws just secure it in place.
