counting circuits in breaker box
When you are counting the number of circuits in a breaker box do you count the 220 circuits as one or two?

2, they use 2 breaker openings and take up 2 120 circuits. what are you counting them for?

donaldbyrd 01-24-2008 09:41 PM

the max the box will hold is 42

TheSiege 01-24-2008 09:47 PM

then yes, 220 is considered 2

For your panel all this means is that you CANNOT use any twin (or skinny, or half sized) breakers.

A 40/40 panel will hold 40- 1" full sized breakers, with two pole breakers taking up two spaces.

A 20/40 can take 20- 1" breakers or up to 20 twin breakers.

Get it?

got it

my box actually has 30 slots does that mean I can or cannot use the 1/2 breakers?

donaldbyrd 01-25-2008 12:59 PM

just to clarify I have 30 slots but cannot determine how many circuits I can have. It is a CTL panel board.
hopefully one of these are the model and someone can help:

donaldbyrd 01-25-2008 04:03 PM

cutler hammer

Speedy Petey 01-25-2008 04:04 PM

What size? 100A, 150A, 200A?

donaldbyrd 01-25-2008 04:09 PM

main is 200a I cannot find a rating on the box

nap 01-25-2008 04:16 PM

just a wild guess but from the model number, I wwould say it max's at 30 circuits.

I'll have to try to look it up later when I have more time.
