cost to change 100amp service to 200amp

well this is not a DIY but question for the pros..

I have a 100amp bryant panel in the garage and it powers everything in my house and the garage.

I need a few more 220V breakers for my garage for my tools like compressor and heavy stationary tools, etc. I run out of breakers so I am looking should I pay to have someone install a 200amp service or just add another subpanel for my garage stuff. How much approx would this kind of upgrade cost.

In Illinois--$1400 to $2100--Is your service buried or over head? You should have not problem getting an electrician or two to give you a quote. This is pretty standard stuff .

Get out your phone--Call a few friends for referrals --or take a chance with the phone book.

Good luck--The work will make your house a nicer place to live and make it easier to sell when the time comes.--MIKE--

This site is geared towards DIY, not pricing estimates
Prices vary widely by area & specific work required
Get several local estimates & check references

A whole house calc would determine if you are near to Maxing out the 100a panel
If you do not have high use electric items 100a is usually good
IE, electric heat, dryer, stove, WH etc

Myself I'd run a sub
But all depends upon your power use
