converting CFL prong lighting

I have a recess CFL prong lighting that I'd like to rewire to a hanging light fixture can I cut the existing red and black wires on the CFL and wire them to a converter kit. I could only find a converter kit for a recess screw in type, so I cut the wires at the screw in adapter. Help I'm I on the right track? What about the voltage differance? I plan on using a low voltage screw in.

Stop. Wrong in a few ways.

By "prong base" I assume you are mean GU10 base CFL lamps.

You should not modify a UL listed device by cutting of that socket.

If you are planning on using low voltage lamps you need transformer to step down the voltage.

Sound like you would be better off removing the recessed cans and installing a low voltage lighting system.

Here is a converter from GU10 to Edison base. You can use a line voltage lamp with this.

Ya have to stop right there for a second due you mention red et black conductor at the G10 socket that useally mean that you have a ballast right next to the unit so if you really want to convert to indenscent you will have to open up the can and bypass the CFL ballast if there is one.

But what brand name this can is due if you pop or slide the trim down you should see the label inside the can so you can able read the details.

Thank you for your suggestions and help. The recess lighting is a Halo H272ICAT Type IC, the bulb is a cfl 26w 4pin TTT the base is GX24Q-3. If I can't find an adapter for this do I need to open the ballast and take the wiring from the ballast?

Can you get up in the attic to find this recessed can if so this will be the best route to deal with it otherwise as I mention above pull the trim can off and there is 3 or 4 screws and take the screws out and slide the whole can down then you can able see the ballast however it will not be easy but can be done.

If this is a remodel can then just pull 3 or 4 spring clip and slide the whole thing and get the indenscent verison of remodel can and ya are done with it.

The indentscent remodel can useally not very expensive I pretty sure they do run about 10 to 15 Euros depending on where ya get it.
