converting from 100amp to 200amp

hello everyone. i live in nj and am considering upgrading my homes electrical system. i am a novice and would not consider attempting a job like this. i was hoping some one could give me a rough idea on how much i would have to pay a licensed electrician for this job and what questions should i ask before hiring someone for this. thank you.

This is one of the most common questions, and one of the hardest to answer accurately. Best bet is get some quotes and go from there.

Mag has the price range down.
Ask if he has insurance and how long he has been doing this. If he says no and about 2 years, call someone else.
Sometimes I feel like if I answer any more questions it is like someone trying to climb over a fence to jump off a bridge and me giving them a boost.
Answers based on the 2011 NEC.

This site is geared towards DIY, not cost estimates
Costs do vary by location & the work that needs to be performed - which usually needs an onsite inspection for something like this
Get several local estimates & check references

Thank you
