Convert 220 to 110
I have a 220 line in the garage and would like to convert to 110 line,
There is a box on the wall. What would be the easiest way to make this conversion. |
What was the box used for before? How many wires are in the box? Detached or attached garage? Size of wires?

convert 220 to 110
The box has a receptiable coming out and was used for a air compressor.
Can I remove the box, run the 220 line into a breaker box and run 1 couple 15 amp breakers out of that. This is in my son's garage (he just bought the house) and I'm not sure what size the wires are. |

Your 240V circuit has two hot wires coming from a double pole breaker. A 120V circuit would have one hot coming from a single pole breaker and one neutral coming from the neutral bus at the panel. There may or may not be a ground wire involved. Sometimes it is very easy to change 240 to 120 by changing one of the hots to a neutral. Need more detail on the wire type. Open the recep box and look at the wires inside. How many wires? Is there a ground? If so, is it bare? Is one wire white? |
