how do i convert an existing 110v outlet to 220v?

Unless it is a dedicated circuit, like a receptacle installed specifically for a wall air conditioner, you can't convert. Your best bet is to run a new line.

The reason you can't convert it if it isn't a dedicated circuit is that you would also be converting every other receptacle or light on that circuit to 240V, which would NOT be good

My suggestion is to call in an electrician. It doesn't appear from your question that you have enough knowledge to be running and connecting electrical circuits. That being said good luck on your endeavor.

DIYers have to start somewhere. This is actually a pretty straight forward task that can be explained pretty easily, as long as it's a dedicated circuit.
