i am planning on changing my existing stove's receptacle into a 30amp-125/ 240v dryer's receptacle. is it safe to do so? should i be concerned the new receptacle is a 30 amp receptacle and the existing wire is higher ? the existing stove's receptacle is wired to a dual pole 40 amp breaker, and i believe is a 8 gauge wire. its a 4 prong receptacle.
Is this safe? can i just change the outlet only and still uses the existing wires?
also my dryer's cord doesn't reach the outlet, can i make an extension cord? using 10 gauge wires, with a 30 amp plug and connector? or what's my better option, since relocating the dryer closer to the outlet is a problem.
