Confusion on a hot wire?

I am installing a baseboard heater in a room , with a 220V line coming out of the wall. I also added a thermostat switch right to the unit of the baseboard
(not a wall mount switch) as far as the wiring goes through the thermostat switch which has 2 wires coming off it, it requires that a hot wire be connected specifically to one of the wires.

My problem is, on a standard 110v i know black is "HOT" and white is "neutral".

But this 220v line that i have has a "black" wire , "Red" wire and a ground.

so what would be considered as my "Hot" wire, The Black or the Red?
Thanks

Both the black and red would be hots in a 240 volt circuit.

Use either the black or red. You only need to switch one of them to turn it off and on.
