Confused on surface mounted fluorescents...

referring to basic strip lights, like work shop style 4 foot long...

I'm confused on how the connection will work at the finish stage so that the wire is concealed. I know electricians around here don't put a box in the wall, they just leave a wire sticking out of the wall, but when it's surface mounted like this, how do you get the wire into the light while keeping it concealed?

Do you still need a cable clamp on the fluorescent? In that case, then the hole in the sheetrock would need to be enlarged slightly to allow the cable clamp to recess into the sheetrock, correct?

Use a standard hit-lock type connector, located in the back of the fixture right over the spot where the wire emerges from the wall/ceiling:

Thats what we do, make a hole in the sheetrock bigger then your connector and put it up on the wall. You fixture is rated to be used as junction box. You can't do this with most lights but you deftinely can with flurocents.
