conduit through air shaft(exhaust vent)
I need to run conduit from the basement to the roof of an old 3 story brick building.
Would it be against code to run the conduit through a air shaft that runs from 1st floor to the roof.
The air shaft is used for the bathroon exhaust vents and for the cook stove hood vents
This is residental property. The temperature in the air shaft sould be less than 80 to 90 degs.
What about PVC sch40 , what is the temperature rating?
This air shaft is about 2 ft wide and 6 inches deep, sheet metal lined

As long as you not running in the vent pipes then you are OK. Beside the vent pipes is good.

I would first chec and see if the attic has a light installed. If there is one. I would try to see if it is possible to
pull new wires through the runs leading to the attic adding your new circuit. then branch your new run
from there.

This isn't always possible, but if it is it sure beats trying to fish conduit through 3 stories of an exhaust vent. if you do decide to go through the vent(which would never pass code here in Chicago) I definately suggest making any holes air tight and using compression couplings.
