code question

I recently purchased a home built in 2008 and I am in the process of finishing off the basement. Stud walls are up and I am ready for putting in furnace/air vents and electrical. The Realtor who sold me the home (same company as the builder, conveniently) mentioned something about needing to have an outlet every 8 feet (not sure about the 8, but it was every "so many" feet) along the walls of each room when we discussed finishing the basement.

I just checked the NEC 2008 and see nothing about this. I could be missing it since it is like 800+ pages though, or it could be a 2011 thing. Iowa and my county both use the 2008 code, so I wanted to check here to see if anyone had heard of this.

I don't think it is going to be a problem since I like having accessible outlets and will likely put in more than would be required, but I want to be sure.

Thanks for any help offered.

Since you've got a copy of the NEC, look at 210.52, I believe. Basically:

No point along the wall can be more than 6' from an receptacle, therefore receptacles should be no further than 12' from each other. Any wall space wider than 24" requires a receptacle.

Got it - thanks - knew I was probably looking in the wrong chapter.
