clamp meter

can you trace circuits with a clamp meter

Only if they're energized, have current flowing, and no other circuit has the same current.

I've used a current clamp to determine which breaker controls a circuit that I want to de-energize without killing anything I want to keep hot.

There's a trick I learned from someone a while back. You connect a lamp or light socket to the circuit you want to trace, and you use a 100W bulb and one of these flasher inserts to make the bulb flash: http://www.cooperindustries.com/cont..._472b_125.html

Your clamp meter will then show that circuit's current draw pulsing at a steady rate, allowing you to identify the correct circuit.
