circuit breaker won't reset

Hi, Guys. I was trying to locate a circuit by turning the breakers off and then back on until the circuit went dead. One particular breaker (20 amp) would not go back to the on position after having turned it off. I tried many times and waited probably an hour and tried again and the same thing. Is this most likely a bad breaker. The breaker has never been tripped before. I just turned it off and it wouldn't come back on. Thanks.

Disconnect the black wire to that breaker and see if it resets.
What brand is it?

I had same issue after replacing some light fixtures...turned out to be a bad breaker.

Perform the test noted above but circuit breakers do go bad.

Agree. It definitely is not as common as most people think, but it does happen.

Try pushing the breaker further toward the off side and then back to on. Some need this little extra step.

Or smack it with a screw driver both options can work occasionally, But based on a residential throw away circuit breaker trash it and install new.

My belief is, if it won't turn on, who knows if it will trip when required to do so by a fault or overload.

circuit breaker won't reset

Hi, Guys. I just wanted to share my results. I was able to reset the breaker the next day, but the circuit was dead. I used a voltmeter to test the breaker, and it tested bad. I replaced it, and everything is back to normal. I appreciate all of your help. Thanks so much.
