Changed Ballast only 1 bulb works

I just finished installing a new ballast in my in-laws 2 blub florescent fixture. When i turned the light on only 1 of the 2 new bulbs lit up. I thought maybe i wired something wrong so i looked again and it looked good. I took the blubs out and switched there locations and only 1 bulb lit up again. The same bulb lit both times regardless of its left or right location.

Should i assume that the 1 bulb that didnt turn on in both the left and right side of the light is bad? Thats my only guess but since its brand new i am second guessing myself.

Any other ideas?

Double check all the connections. How did you connect the wires from the ballast to the "tombstones"?

What are the "Tombstones"?

I connected the Blue to the blue, the red to the red, the yellow to the yellow and the white and black to the white and black.

The i couldnt tell be the diagram what yellow connected to what yellow..... did it matter which? maybe i have the yellows on the incorrect yellow wire and they need to be switched?

Each individual wire is connected with a wire nut. There are no more then 2 wires connected with a nut.

The tombstones are point of attachment for the bulbs. Turn off the switch. Remove one end of the fixture ( if necessary ) or remove the screws that hold the bracket for the two tombstones. The tombstones should slide out. They are attached to the wires by means of "stab locks". Push on them and make sure they are firmly connected. Do this to the other side as well. Hope this helps.

If one bulb lights in either position, and the other bulb won’t light up in either position, 99.999% chance the bulb is bad.

We have a winner!

my In-laws took back the light we suspected was bad and got a new 1. When they got home and installed it everything turned on a both lights are now working perfectly.

Thanks for the input from everyone and happy to report this issue as solved.
