ceiling wiring

just looking at the wiring in our new house. The bathroom light fitting wiring currently features 2 lives tied together as well as 2 earths tied together. Neither combination is used with the actual light fitting. Can sort of understand this tying together in a "1-way" sense but am intrigued why they used the 2 neutrals for hooking up to the light fitting?

Sounds like the wire continues on to power something else. A fan?

it's for the switch, the incomming black gets tied into the black going to the switch, the white is used as the return from the switch and should be marked with black tape or paint or something lol. The white from the incomming is the actual neutral. so it's really not too whites attached to the light but a white and a white wire that should be identified as a hot wire.

In the states, the remarked white wire will/should be the feed to the switch, and the black the switch leg.
This keeps from having 2 white wires to connect to the fixture.
