Ceiling fan wiring

My house was built in 1959. There is no ground wire, and the outlets are polarized. I'm trying to install a Hunter Ceiling fan in the main bedroom. The goal is to replace the ceiling light fixture which is controlled by a light switch on the wall.

I've removed the fixture and installed a 2x4 brace between the joists. I noted there are two wire sheathed covered wires for the original fixture. One cloth sheathed wire has a red and black wire, and the other a white and a black wire. The two black wires are capped together. leaving the red and white wires connected to the old ceiling light fixture.

As you know the Hunter Fan has 1 black, 1 black and white, and 1 white wire.

Obviously, I attach the white fan wire to the white ceiling wire but what about the red wire from the ceiling and the black and black&white wires from the fan?

for single switch operation you would attach the black and the black/white to the red and the white to the white.
i'm assuming the black/white is your fan power.

Connect the red from the old fixture to the black and the black/white of the ceiling fan. The whites connect to each other as you have done. Leave the two blacks in the ceiling wire nutted together.
