Ceiling Fan Remote Problem

I have two Harbor Breeze ceiling fans with light kit operated by a single remote control. They've been installed for 3 years and have worked fine. However, one fan now does not come on immediately when I press the remote (the other one does). After about 30 min, with no remote or switch activated, the inoperative fan comes on. I'm baffled. What gives?
