Ceiling Fan With Remote in Middle of Circuit

Hi,
I'm new here and have been struggling with this problem at my new house. The living room ceiling fan/light with a remote has not worked since we moved in a couple months ago. The fan and receiver are good, because I switched it from my bedroom where it worked no problem. In the junction box in the ceiling, I have one hot(orange) wire and two white wires. If the white wires are disconnected, the tv and wall light loses power.
I have tried wiring both white wires to the input white wire on the fan's receiver, and connected the orange wire to the red wire on the receiver. This is good for getting power to the tv, but no power to the fan. Can anybody help?

Thanks,
Tom M
Chicago, IL

How many wires on the fan? Is it a fan/light combo? Is the ceiling fixture controlled by a switch?

There are no other wires in the box, just one orange and two whites?
This sounds unlikely. Other than bare ground wires, you should have another wire there.

The reason you lose power to other devices is because separating the whites breaks the circuit.
They are most likely neutral wires.

You need a tester to locate the 120 volts required to operate the fan and the receiver. If it worked before, you have it wired wrong now.

Thanks for your replies.
I got the tester out, and as it's hooked up, The red/orange wire shows that it has power.
The fan is a light/fan combo. It has three wires, black, blue and white that correspond to the receiver's output wires. Inside the box, aside from the two whites and one orange, there are only a yellow and pink wire that are just passing through the box to the other side of the room. The fixture is controlled by a switch, I attached a picture of that junction box as well. It is a pretty full box.
Thanks,
Tom

Typically on a light/fan the black is the hot for the light, blue is hot for tje fan motor, and white is neutral.
So you would wire both black and blue to the switched hot, which seems to be orange.
The white would go with the other whites, and green to ground.

What is it thats not working?
Does anything on the fan work? Or is it the remote thats not working?

Are you in Chicago if so let me post the most common conductors colours which I know.

White-Neutral
Grey-Dedicated neutral for GFCI
red-black -blue--Power
Brown--travelers for three way
purple--GFCI protected power
yellow-orange---switch legs

But if you have AFCI then there will be addtional colour it will be used or used from the listing

So try that from my listing I know the listing came from the Chicago resdent guy < The listing is from Oh'Mike so the credit is from him. Merci. >

Merci,
Marc
