ceiling fan light problem

Hi,

New to the board so would appreciate any help on this issue. We have had a Hampton Bay ceiling fan for a number of years. Replaced the circuline bulb a few years ago and had no problem. Recently the light dimmed and then shut off so I picked up another 9" 30 watt bulb (matching previous and description on the fan). When I reinstalled (tried prongs both up and down), the light will no longer go on. Tried buying another type of bulb and it wont work either. Fan works fine though. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Ballast probably needs to be replaced.

Thanks Kyle. That was my original thought but wasn't sure if thats an easy procedure. Tried to see how to remove the current one, and didn't seem to budge.

Thanks. Worked with it more and found it had a pop rivet attachment. Easily removed the old ballast and will be looking to find a replacement. Appears they are still selling them online. Hopefully this will be the solution.

You might check your local hardware, big box stores or electrical supply houses. Good chance you can find one locally.

Since its a Hampton Bay fan, and to my knowledge only Home Depot sells those, I checked with them. Said they don't sell most of the replacement parts in the store. I think I found it online. Will be here in about a week and then I should know if its the ballast or not.

Thanks

Considering all the symptoms, I think you found the culprit.
I'd bet money it'll be fine.
