Ceiling Fan and Light Control Installation Problems

I have a black and white wire along with the ground (copper) wire in the box.
However the switch I bought comes with a black , red, and blue with the ground (green) wire. Which goes where?

Sounds like you purchased a 3 way switch. That is used along with another 3 way switch to turn on the fan from 2 different locations. Is that what you intended? If not return the switch and get a regular switch with just 2 terminals(screw on top and bottom of switch).

In this bedroom there is only one switch and it controls both the light and ceiling fan. I just wanted to be able to use a dimmer and fan speed switch. So with that being said should I still return it for a 2 way switch?

Sounds like all you have in the switch box is a switch loop (no neutral). You will either have to rewire the switch to fan/light or purchase a remote control setup to do what you want.
