In 3 upstairs rooms we have switches by the door that control the bottom half of an outlet. All 3 rooms have ceiling fans with lights already installed in the rooms. I would like to have the lights, at least if not the fan as well, controlled by the switch instead of the outlet.
In the outlet controlled by the switch I have 1 romex 3 cable plus gound and 1 romex 2 cable plus ground.
In the switch I have the same thing as the outlet. 1 romex 3 and 1 romex 2.
Ceiling fan is wired to be constant hot and controlled by the pull chains.
You need to determine if the fan feed is in the switch. First determine if they are on the same breaker. Does turning off the breaker for the receptacle also turn off the fan? If it does then disconnect the black from the two wire cable in the switch box and see if the fan goes off.
