I won't argue, inspectors here won't go for it, and I highly doubt that will fly with other areas. It defeats the entire purpose of the requirement if the switched outlet if the switch isn't required to be in or adjacent to the room it services.

I won't argue, but the switch isn't required in the room or near it. And any inspector is abusing his power if he requires anything more than code. Sorry you don't share the same view, also... If anyone actually wired a house to bare minimum code wouldn't be in business very long, just saying.

Just my 2 cents. You are required to have a switched light via receptacle or a swtched ceiling light. No inspector is going to allow you to switch a freakin bedroom light or any room light in a finished area from a circuit breaker in a panel. Your kidding yourself if you think that is going to happen.
In this case I think what they mean by "no switch" is just power to the fixture and the fan and light dome switched by pull chains.

FWIW I'm always interested in the intent of code language. However the OP is talking about the options for switching his room lighting... ceiling fan or whatever as offered by the builder. I really don't now why we are going off on the fact that code language would allow you to switch the light from the circuit breaker panel. No one in new constructuion would wire that way ... Your going to lose your appeal to the ahj and I doubt that Stickboy or anyone hear that has wired residential has ever done this. BUT I'm forced to agree the NEC doesn't say that the switch must be in the same room ..... An inspector would probably look at me and say does that breaker look like a wall switch to you .....
