ceiling fan dimmer switch issue

Hi all, I bought a new ceiling fan - it is a Hampton Bay fan and a Lutron fan / light dimmer. The problem is that the light works but not the fan motor. The way it is wired is power goes into a 3 gang box and I have a switch leg going to the ceiling box. I triple checked to make sure everything was wired right. I'm wondering if all ceiling fans are compatible with those type switches or are there instances when they aren't? And I didn't think to bypass the switch until I had it back in the box. thanks for any info.

Are there seperate conductors for the fan and lights? Is the fan pull chain set on high?

I tried the pull chain on all settings. what do you mean by seperate conductors? In the ceiling box is only the switch leg and it was wired to the module that came with the switch and from there to, yes, 2 seperate wires for the light and fan. Do you think it is possible that I just got a bad fan?

Yes a bad fan motor cannot be ruled out.

But first you have to try it with the dimmer bypassed. Incompatibility between fan motor and dimmer is much more common than a bad fan motor.

You need to splain better.

Is this an electronic switch that sends the sepatate light/fan signal thru one cable (two wires)?
