Ceiling Fan + Dimmer Switch = BUSTED
I've read that you shouldn't connect a ceiling fan to a dimmer switch. That's exactly what my electrician did. I made a point to never touch the dimmer switch, using only the remote to control the fan + light (Hunter... not sure of the model).

Long story short, someone comes into my room looking to turn the light on, does something with the dimmer switch, and now the fan and light don't work. I've tried messing with the pull strings and remote (which still lights up), but nothing. I flipped the fuse in the garage, and nothing. I opened the dimmer switch on the wall hoping to find a reset, but nothing.

Any ideas?

Replace the dimmer switch with a regular switch?

Just to enhance your advice to the OP. An inductive load (which the fan is) should NEVER be connected to a standard DIMMER switch. Same goes for CFLs and other Fluorescent loads. Not only will it not work but it can cause a fire!!!

did you try pushing in on the dimmer? some models the knob can be used as a on & off button, push the button till it clicks and rotate to dim or brighten a incandescent lamp. there not made for fan controls or like they explained above for fluorescent bulbs. try using a rheostat if you want to control the speed of the fan from that location. hope this help!!
