Car Batteries to power Speakers
Hi, first time on this forum. So next month Im having a party in the barn on my property, but theres one problem; no electricity, and its half a mile to the nearest outlet. So heres my idea i have 2 car batteries and all i want to power is 3 100 watt florescent and my M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 speakers. Ill play music from my ipod so i dont need to power that. so my question is how long will i be able to play music and keep the lights on with both batteries charged? i dont need more than like 6 hours.
thanks in advance

I would do a test. Start by using only the lights. Hook them up to the batteries and let them run. See how long they last.

>300 W for 6 hours is >1800 w-h.
One 60 amp-hour, 12v lead acid battery will give you less than 720 w-h, less because of the Peukert effect.
Plus, they are not deep cycle batteries.

Not going to happen. Get a small genset, or do like we did in my day, turn on the radio in the car, or bring a boombox. The Dewalt units are pretty good. As for the lights, light a fire and put up some torches.

Just party in the car (it'll idle for 6 hours, won't it?).
What's wrong with the house stereo?
(will your ipod battery last 6 hours)

titanoman, mine will last 8 to 12 if you do not start playing with it, while it is playing music.

Tell me where the party is, and I'll supply the tunes (what's your pleasure?) for a couple beers (that's my pleasure!).
