Capping old live wires

Can you cap old live wires and then cover them up with drywall? Or should I try and hook up my new ceiling fan with it? The switch works a wall light next to the door.

Live wires must always be accessable where they junction. So It is NOT ok to cap and drywall over them.

Capping old live wires

This is one of the most common issue I ran into more than once and with live wires you can not cap them off and hide in the wall.

Only two ways you can do this .,

Have a juction box and blank cap so it can be accaseable anytime.

-OR-

Trace that conductor/cable back to the prevoius juction box or at the source and abanoned it by cutting it off and push the wires back after you make a white tape and marked ABANONED so that way someone else in future will see that and know what to do next.

Merci,Marc

Capping old live wires

You can cap them - so they are safe & not connected or chance of live wires crossing

But you can't cover them with drywall
As stated by all - live wires must remain accessible
You see many homes with a cover like this (without hook) - painted white
These cover old boxes w/live wires
They have fancier ones too
