Cannot turn MAIN trip back on

Hi Folks. Rewiring kitchen today. Had main turned off. When I finished I couldn't hit the main trip switch back on. So I disconnected the first receptacle in the circuit but the main would not go back on. Any ideas?

Sometime when you turn a breaker off, it will go to the mid position.
Turn it off, then back on.

Cannot turn MAIN trip back on

and sometimes, the main is just plain bad.

Had that happen to me once, installed a new circuit into a Bulldog panel -- then the main would NOT turn back on. This was the last call of the day, at 4:00 PM.

Ended up having to do an emergency panel replacement, and didn't get finished until after 10 PM

Is this the main house breaker or the breaker for the circuit you rewired? If it is the whole house main breaker, turn off all branch circuits the try the main. When it holds, then turn on all the branch circuits

Yes, I had turned off all the subsidiary breakers and still the main wouldn't budge ......... so I guess there is the problem. Will take another look this morning and if no burst of inspiration comes, I'll call in a Sparks. Will inform ye of the outcome.

Brought home all my power tool batteries last night and charged them but it's very overcast/dark this morning ............ so I guess an early weekend

Sounds like the Main Breaker is stuck off, not tripping.

Sometimes they can be a PITA to reset. Push harder, may need replaced, the joy of things.

Cover the lugs so you cannot slip and hit them (this would be bad)
