Can you override outdoor lights on a timer w a switch?

I recently wired and installed two outdoor post lights. I haven't wired them to a switch or panel yet, just ran wire thru basement walls. If I didn't want them on all night is there a way to override the timer with a switch if I wanted to turn them on or off independent of the timer? If so how would I do it?

Thanks in advance for any info

You would install a switch downstream from the timer. If you install the switch upstream of the timer it would lose its time setting.

Wire a switch loop around the timer. One side on the hot input to the timer and the other on the switched hot output of the timer.

The timer will run normally but the switch will turn the lights on regardless of the timer.
