Can you connect 10-3 southwire to 12-2
I was mislead by a friend and bought 50 feet of 10-3 Southwire outdoor burial cable. I needed to buy 10-2.
I have 4 outdoor outlets that run off a 15 amp breaker. I want to install a fifth outlet at the end of my driveway that is 25 feet away. Can I connect the 10-3 to the existing outlet that has 10-2 and run the new outlet to the end I my driveway.
I tried to return the 10-3 to get more 10-2 but I can't find the receipt. I'm I going to have to buy 10-2.

Can you connect 10-3 southwire to 12-2
I know the 10-2 has a black, white, and ground cable. And the 10-3 has two blacks, white and ground. Could I just put a wire cap nut around one of the black wires and use the 10-3. Or am I stuck with this 10-3. Am I going to have to buy more 10-2?

If it is 10/3 UF cable, it has a red, a black, a white and a bare ground. You can use it in lieu of 10/2 and cap off the red conductor.

Did you buy the 10/3 at a big box store like Home Depot or Lowe's? If so, you can return it without a receipt - you'll get a store credit instead of your money back. Buy some 12/2 UF

So send your wife, brother, friend, a bum off the street (give him $5).

Really?? I've never had that problem at my local stores. But, then, I've spent over $50K at Home Depot in the last two years while building my own house. I'm on first-name basis with all the managers.

I tried that to. My brother went up there. Turned down. The system must know that we are brothers.

No, it doesn't know that you are brothers. This is the silliest story I ever heard.

I've returned dozens of items at HD,often several times in one day. NEVER had any problem. Talk with the managers? Has anyone else had trouble with returns at HD? I even bought something in NC and returned it in OR. No problem though I did have the receipt. In fact, if you charged the original purchase to a credit card, HD couldn;t care less whether you have a receipt. Good luck!
