can location

I am going to install can lights in the den. 5", IC rated, Halo brand.
I need some suggestions on layout-

Any general rules of thumb?

Any where to look on the web for sample layout?

The room is approx 11' by 18'.

Comments appreciated!

Are you looking to wash the walls with light
Or just light up the room?

Just want to have general lighting. I can center them at 25.5" inches or 37" inches off the walls. I don't want to change framing so I need to work with one of those 2 locations. I am thinking 4 lights in 2 rows at one of those distances from the wall, then maybe 3 more down the middle, off set from the 4 against the wall. Might put them on 2 switches, but more likely a dimmer.

I think I'd go with the 37"
That would give you 3' from the walls & 5' between the cans
That puts the light approx over anyone sitting on a couch/chair if they are reading
