Can light positioning

I am building a wall to divide an existing room. There are already can lights installed in the ceiling. The ideal position for my new wall puts the can lights within 6" of the wall. For the sake of not having to move the can lights, is it ok for them to be that close to a wall? Thx

It is ok, but most of the light will reflect onto the wall, and I don't think you will like the look.

Agreed. Ideally, you want the cans to be 18"-24" away from the walls to provide the best wall-washing effect without glare. That being said, if moving the cans is out of the question, you may be able to use eyeball trims in the existing cans to direct the light away from the wall and out into the room.
