Can I use a marine battery charger on UPS gel cells?

I have a couple old UPS batteries lying around that I don't really trust for actual UPS use as they are old and probably wont hold a charge very long, not to mention they are normally best in pairs. They still work, so I'm thinking of just having them handy for during power outages I can hook up 12 volt items such as lights (which I need to find next time I go to the hardware store, or automotive store).

Could I use a charger like this on such batteries:

They are sealed lead acid gel cells. I can't see why not, as they are basically smaller and sealed versions of marine batteries, from what I understand.

I thought this was an old post brought back to life, but, it looks and smells new to me.

Why not, as long as the voltage is correct.

That's what I figured. 12v is pretty much the standard while some have a selector. Handy to have if the car wont start, too. :P

If they're really AGM or Gel and not just deep cycle lead-acid, you should really get a charger designed to handle AGM/Gel batteries. They charge a little different than regular lead-acid. We use these: http://www.batterychargers.com/Produ...tName=94026842

We use those kind of batteries all the time at work (live theatre) for powering lights on moving set pieces and such.
