Can I disconnect a gas fireplace blower?

I mavoed into a home with a direct vent gas fireplace. It has a blower that comes on when the fireplace heats up. The blwer is too loud and I don't need that much heat in the room. Can I simply disconnect the blower? Are there risks to doing so?

Possibly, the fan blows air across the heating chamber, cut off that airflow and you could have overheating. The heater apparently is strictly forced air, not radiant. Don't try and change its' design.

Are you sure there is not a fan speed control with off setting for the blower?
