Hello,

I was hoping that someone on here can help me out...I am redoing my bathroom in hopes it will sell a little faster, the ceiling can lights are incandescent. In the soffit over the sinks are 48" florescent fixtures. What I am doing is taking down the old frame on the bottom of the soffit and am going to rock it and cut in 4" can lights My question is will these need to be floe cent can lights?

Thanks in advance

google "CA title 24"....there is quite a bit of info and it is relatively easy to read / interpret. Note that I am not a pro, just a DIY'er homeowner

Check the code to be sure, but if I recall correctly (from the 2005 version)......

For a bathroom:

1) high efficacy lights (most florescents) OR
2) incandescents on an occupancy switch (manual on / auto off). Note these are different than the "motion" switches that have on / off / auto settings. If you go to a big box store, the switches actually say CA title 24 compliant. They are, of course, more than the motion switches.

Lots of other regulations for other rooms of the house.

CF bulbs in an incandescent recessed can don't cut it. Regardless of the bulb type the cans will need to be AT and IC rated
