Building Sign Troubleshooting

I have a building sign that has only half of its six fluorescent light working.

I have replaced the bulbs, but still only three of the six illuminate.

Can it be a problem with the ballast? The ballast is wired in pairs of bulbs (wiring diagram HERE.) If it was the ballast, wouldn't the lights go out in pairs?

If it's not the ballast, and it's not the bulbs, does that mean the problem is in the wiring? And if so, how could the wiring have gotten screwed up after only four year in use (indoors, so I'd eliminate corrosion as a reason)?

Thanks in advance for your help.

How many ballast are in the fixture? Are all the bulbs that are out off the same ballast?

It's one ballast for all six bulbs. Allanson 648-AT.

(the wiring diagram link above brings you to a page with multiple diagrams.the one that is for this ballast is #15)

I looked at that. Could it be multiple ballasts in one enclosure?

Assuming the lamps are known to be good, the problem could be the ballast or the wiring. The next troubleshooting step is to identify which lamps are out (as numbered on the wiring diagram).

Building Sign Troubleshooting

I just opened it up... It's just the one ballast.

I'm pretty sure it's not the bulbs. I switched them all out with new bulbs and the same three fixtures lit up and the same three didn't light up.

You guys have confirmed what I thought. I'll check the wiring next. If all tests out ok, all that's left is the ballast.

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond!!
