Either the breaker is malfunctioning or there is a direct short in that circuit (my bet) or both.

Andy.

Does this circuit have receptacles/plug-in appliances on it? If so, then I would try unplugging everything and checking to see if the breaker will reset. IF YOU ARE COMFORTABLE WORKING IN A PANEL, you could disconnect the wire connected to the breaker and seeing if it would then reset. If you are NOT comfortable with this, please do not open the panel; call in a pro.

Jimmy

Good for you! Now the daunting and possibly exciting chore of identifying the guilty appliance!

Good luck!

I bet failed plug/cord on an appliance. Look for burn marks.

But KB could be right....
