Breaker panel upgrade

I am considering an upgrade from a 150 amp breaker panel to a 200 amp new ITE 40/40 I have it has all the right breakers and main installed and I will pull a permit and use a licensed electrician. The problem is I'm in Michigan and do not know if I need to install arc free breakers for the outlets. This is an upgrade not a new install. I don't want to rattle the inspectors cage until I know the answer.
Thanks Jim

I think you need to rattle his cage.

I know in my area of Michigan, you would not have to install AFCI breakers due to upgrading the service but depending on how you read the code and interpret it, I can surely see where an inspector would require them.

you sound like you are afraid of your inspector. You shouldn't be. Most inspectors prefer to have people ask and do the right thing rather than have to redo it, or even worse, hide something because they aren't sure.
