Breaker for Cuttler-Hammer Service Pannel
I have a 200 Amp Cuttler-Hammer service pannel and I need to add 2 20 amp breakers - I am wondering what type of breaker to purchase.

Do you mean normal vs. gfci/afci? The two garden variety CH panels used in residential are types CH or BR. BR's (the breakers) are somewhat larger than the CH's. There should be some indication on the panel, perhaps inside the door that will tell you what type of panel you have and what types of breakers are compatible. All the HD's around my house sell Cutler-Hammer breakers.

As stated above, Cutler-Hammer makes 2 types of breakers. They're not interchangeable.
The CH type usually has a black case, and a tan handle. Usually, not always. The BR type, several years ago, had different color handles for different amperages. Blue for 15, red for 20, green for 30, and I can't remember the rest. Recently, they all have black handles. Rob |

I have the pannel mod number or the part number for the sticker, I will contact CH. I will just pull a breaker and take it to my electrical supply store.

Pulling a breaker will do it. The BR and CH are very different in how they plug onto the bus bar. No mistaking one from the other. The sticker in the panel should list the breaker type.
