Breaker Box help

Recently we smelled smoke from our breaker box. It is full of these little blak boxes with numbers. The one that seems to have burn has two green switches, both stamped with the #30. Is this a thirty amp switch, or a 60 if you add them? I am electrical dummy. Please help.

Breaker Box help

From your description, its a dbl. pole 30 amp breaker. What does it control? It could be for a heater, a dryer or water heater.
You will probably need to replace it. Breakers can go bad, but often there is a cause for the failure. You will need to find out which it is, a failed breaker or trouble with the circuit.

Breaker Box help

It controls the heater. The wire was not in all the way, from what the husband tells me. I needed to know what to call it, to replace it. He said it was a sixty, but I found it on E-bay under 30 amp. Thanks.
