I am wiring in an outlet, and not paying much attention at the hardware store accidentally bought outdoor 220 wire (with the 4 wires instead of 3). Is it legal to still use this and just cap the extra wire, or do I have to go buy more?
As long as the wire size is rated for the circuit size it would be fine. But I am assuming that you bought xx-3 UF. That can be really expensive, a PITA to work with, and worth the trip back to get the right stuff.

Thanks for the response. Yeah, I think that is what I bought. And it was actually cheaper, which is why I grabbed it. I was kinda in a hurry, and thought the cheaper one must be what I needed. It has been a bit of a pain, but thankfully all I'm doing is running from one side of a door to the other, so it's not too bad.
