You want to convert from 120/240 1 phase to 480Y/277 3 phase. Not cheap at all.

240 may operate the equipment just fine if you are just testing. I know we test 277 volt lighting fixtures with 240 all the time.

Lighting ain't a motor/compressor.

The AC are likely three phase. If you have 240 volts you likely only have single phase. A transformer will boost the voltage to 277 but if you need the three phase that is much more complicated.

A transformer is the simplist option.
You will have to find one with enough current capacity,
And do you need only single phase ?

good transformers are not cheap !
but if you look around a bit you could find one !

How big of a unit?

I might suggest a buck/boost 240 - 16/32 transformer be used .... You can get close to 277 on the output (272).
