The electrical code requires any gap greater than 1/8" to be repaired. What is your ceiling made of?

The problem is run-on sentences and lack of punctuation.

A cup or cone shaped piece usually less than 6 inches in diameter is a canopy.

A flat (or decoratively contoured) disk is a medallion.
