best way to wire rear surround sound speakers
So In the crawl space, you can see the bottom wood plate of the wall and floor joists, is that correct? You would need to measure and find the correct stud pocket, and drill a hole up through the bottom plate of the wall with a fairly large drill bit, enough to get the speaker wire through (3/8" or 1/2" I'd say). Should be easy to get the wire up since the hole in the wall will be big enough to get your hand in.
What about the other end of the wire? Do you plan to also go through the wall or use the floor? One trick I use to run wires, if both holes are too small to reach into...
Once you get the holes drilled in the living room wall and crawl space ceiling, get a friend to put a few inches of a metal fish tape (or some other straight metal object) a few inches into the bottom hole. Then tape a strong magnet (like a rare earth magnet) to the end of a long string. Drop that into the wall, and shake it around until it connects to the fish tape, then have your friend pull it through. Then tape the speaker wire to one of the ends of the string, and use the string to pull the wire through.
You are using in-wall rated wire, right?
