There's a book called "wiring simplified". I picked up a copy at Home Depot for about $5...I use it to loan to friends! They sell them in the same aisle as the electricians tools.

I'm not advocating Amazon, but here's their link to it.

And, ask all the silly questions you want. There's a lot of helpful folks on here that would rather help you out than see you set something on fire or shock somebody. As long as you know your limits, we're here for ya!

I second that choice. I borrowed it from my library about 6mos ago, then bought the new edition when it was released in Feb.
It has been a great resource for me, and while I don't consider myself a 'newbie', I am not as experienced as some guys on here.
It is a great reference; Well written and illustrated.

I got my copy at Amazon.com for about $17. HD wanted about $25 for the book.
I guess when you figure shipping, there's not all that much difference in price<g>

I would reccomend Electrical Wiring Residential by Ray C. Mullen this is an excelent text. In fact the only reson I know about it is from vo-tech this is the book that they had us purchase to learn from.

Too bad the idiots that work in that aisle haven't bothered to give it a read!

This may be a bit much, esp. if you're just looking for tecniques, but if you want to go a step further and learn the why's behind a lot of the stuff presented in this book, get a copy of the 05 or 08 NEC handbook. This sucker is chock full of great illustrations and explanations that are not printed in the field book. It has helped me in a zillion instances but then again, I'm that nerd that wants to understand "why," not just how.

Take care,
Jimmy
