Before I close walls: hard wiring under cabinet lighting with Romex.

Hello all-

Simple question: Does the stubbed out Romex just "stick out" from a hole drilled in the cabinet base or is more needed?

Per very appreciated help here on wiring line voltage undercabinet lights I found power from a 15A 14/2 lighting circuit as instructed. Got a follow up question.

When having the 2 romex cables exit the cabinet base (one into the light & another back out to the next in the daisy chain), does one simply drill a centered hole in the back cabinet lip and push the wires out? I am just about to close the walls & do not want to rip them out AGAIN Figured I'd be 100% sure before taping everything up!

Since your walls are open, why not just run one wire to each of your under cabinet light fixtures to a junction box in the basement or some other concealed area where you can get to the box. Makes for a slightly neater install.
Also, in my experience the lamps in those line voltage under cabinets never hold up to banging doors on those hangers. I prefer to install a transformer somewhere and run my romex to a JUNO TRAC 12 system. (just a suggestion)

I wish it were so easy to run wires up from the basement. Unfortunately, such is very difficult as there re no easy ways to run them. Were this a full tear out & not just cutting out a backsplash it might work. Too many obstructions, outside walls & worse. Would also require undoing everything I've done.

I'm also lukewarm on the 12v systems. Proprietary transformers will eventually fail & replacements may be hard to get.

Proprietary not needed any transformer will do, talk to your local electrical supply clerk.
What about mounting a 1900 box in a lower cabinet area where is won't be seen up near the top?

I've already bought the lights & started to instal, meaning they are no longer returnable.That'd be $250 down the drain! Plus, they are dimable, which my wife really likes.

I like wht you're saying, but fear that I'm too far into this to change. Any thoughts on my original question? Are the romex wires just stubbed out through the cabinet back/underside lip?

Romex for undercabinet lights is stubbed out & the protruding 6" on regular cabinets & 14" on the corner one covered in wiremold. All OK?
