Bathroom lighting tips
I'm starting a bathroom remodel. Anyone one have tips or is there a rule of thumb on lighting layout ? It's a small bathroom 10' x 5' probably will go with high hats with surface mount over sink area. Open to any suggestions. THANKS

Light over the shower/tub
Cans in the main walkway area or a exhaust fan/light combo Surface mount vanity fixture on the wall I would not go with all recessed lighting in a bathroom. It tends to leave shadows on your face when you are shaving, putting makeup on. |
Ideally you want a wall mounted light or a pendant on each side of the mirror, about eye level. That gives you even light on your face as k buz mentioned. You can supplement with recessed or ceiling lights.
I like some light at the toilet so I can read the comics. I use a light-fan combo. Any light over a tub or shower must be rated for such use and often requires a GCFI in the circuit. |
Light strip over the sink vanity, chandelier for general lighting, exhaust fan of course and a light over the tub if you want. I don't like cans in a bathroom...too industrial for me.

I frequently use a fan/light combination over the tub--there are some nice looking ones availavle--
