Bathroom Fan/Light

I hooked up my bathroom fan/light to one switch so that when the light is turned on so will the fan. Problem is that in one position the fan is on and the light is off. When I flip the switch the fan turns off and the light goes on. Where did I go wrong?

Did you use a 3 way switch and hook up each wire to their own screw?
Wire nut the black wires that go to the fan and light with a jumper and then the jumper goes to the switch.

Sure sounds like a 3 way switch was used. Power in on common and the 2 normal screws for travelers were used for the switched hots to the fan and light.

Did you use a 3 wire cable to the fan/light? Black, red, white and ground.

My first thought also was a 3 way switch. I've accidentally grabbed one of those without looking.
