another good reference book, "Electrical wiring, Residential" by Ray Mullin. It helps make the NEC more easily understandable.

as kb posted, wiring simplified is my favorite reference, it's affordable, readily available online or at home depot, and they release a new one to correlate with the most recent nec.

Wiring Simplified was THE book that got me started and interested in the electrical trade.

for 10 bucks its the best book I own, broken down into terms anyone can comprehend.
